Helping people in need in the Upper Valley

Upper Valley Habitat for Humanity is the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, an inclusive, ecumenical ministry with the goal of providing simple, decent, affordable home ownership for deserving families in our community who could not otherwise afford to buy a home.

The power of home ownership

We believe that achieving home ownership is one of the single most valuable steps that a family can take to work themselves into a firm footing from which they can then thrive on their own.

Neighbors helping neighbors

Houses are built by community volunteers, with many local vendors providing free or deeply discounted materials and services.

Sweat Equity

A selected family agrees to contribute at least 500 hours of work in the building of their house. The work of their whole family (and their relatives, friends and co-workers) is counted in this sweat equity.

A hand up, not a hand-out

Our homes are sold to the family at the actual cost of the house, with no profit, and with a zero interest mortgage. The homeowner repays the mortgage, providing us with funds to continue our homebuilding activities.
